Well, it is better than the Worst Mommy In the World list, I suppose...
It all began yesterday morning when I woke up. See every morning my alarm clock goes off at 6:30. I usually go turn the alarm off and then jump back into the warm covers to plan out my morning. Breakfast, clothes, etc.
I knew that this day was going to be Hailey's last day of class and then on Friday we would be going to the school for a Christmas party and little show that they always put together for the parents. So, I got up, pulled on my sweats, t-shirt and running shoes with the intentions of dropping HP off at school and then going running with Rose puppy at the track. Since I knew I probably would not being going up that way with HP out of school and there really isn't any where I feel as safe as at that track.
We had pancakes for breakfast and HP was ready in no time. (fyi Blake was staying home with Daddy) I got Hailey and Rose into the car and we were off to school! Great day so far! Everything was smooth sailing, until...
I pulled into the parking lot at school and noticed all of the cars and little red shirted kids skipping into the building, presents and goodies. OH NO! Not today! The Christmas Party is today!??? What!?
Ok...so I pulled it together. We drove (very fast) back home nearly dodging a catastrophe when we unknowingly pulled up beside a sanitation truck with the whole bottom side engulfed in flames and we couldn't go anywhere until the light changed. Yes! I was panicking. I just knew the thing was about to blow up but the light changed and we were able to get away safe. We did see the firetrucks and everything rushing towards it. It was crazy!
As soon as we were home we were going lighting fast changing clothes, gathering goodies I already had lined up to take the next morning. Putting the puppy, back up (bless her heart she was very confused at all the chaos) I called the school to let her teacher know we were going to be a few minutes late. We FINALLY get there and go in. Hailey excited from all my rushing, runs in and finds her seat, just happy to be there.
Not two minutes after we got there I realized I had left her "girl" gift to give at home. AHHHH! So, I did a quick call to Super Dad who saved the day with his swift driving to drop off the carefully wrapped package. Everything seemed to be slowing down. We had made it and everything was o.k. now. My absentmindedness hadn't ruined the day after all. We had a pleasant time vising, snacking, and exchanging gifts.
Then, it happened. Hailey realized that the first thirty minutes of the party we missed while running back and forth was the part she was most excited about. And, the tears started rolling. She had been practicing singing Jingle Bells and had memorized a poem to recite. The sobbing was so pitiful we had to leave. I was consoling her and apologizing . I wanted to get on my knees and beg her not to be mad at me. She wasn't mad at me but I felt like dirt...no worse. I felt like I should be added to the Worst Mommy in the World List.
She wouldn't let me do it though. She told me it was o.k. and after she sniffed a little and wiped her eyes she started to sing Jingle Bells :)
And then she recited her poem to me. I loved it and she knew that I was very glad that she had put on a little show just for me.
Next year. I will put this party stuff on my calendar in bold so we hopefully won't have any mishaps.

Bless your heart! That is totally something I would do. :(
Wow...I could just picture it all with your descriptions! I'm glad it all worked out in the end and that she was happy to put on the show for you :o)
Awww. It is HARD being a mom. Especially w/all the school stuff they do. (Even in pre-school). YOU are an awesome mommy!
